FAQ

Thanks for checking in to Dark Heartwood, below you will find some useful information about our miniatures, shipping and other good-to-know things about us.

THESE MODEL KITS ARE HAND MADE IN THE UK

These kits are not produced in a factory with injection moulded plastic, they are poured by hand in a studio and cast under high pressure to ensure a high level of detail.

Sometimes you may even receive miniature parts that are beige rather than grey - generally this is due to our supply of resins (sometimes we can get hold of pre-tinted resins and sometimes not). The PU resins we use for our miniatures are always designed to be painted on because of this, we opt to not use additional pigments to make them grey - it just messes with the chemistry.

In short, sometimes beige mostly grey but always the best option for painting. Primers are always recommended though.

For our busts and art pieces we always make sure they are cast in grey as they are display pieces in their own right.

MAKING THINGS RECYCLABLE

We do our best to ship our products in a way that is as recyclable as possible - cardboard boxes and paper tape are a given and we are always working on ways to avoid plastic bubble wrap and plastic bags (even the ‘eco friendly’ ones are a bit of a lie). If all goes to plan in the coming months you should receive no plastic packing with your orders and instead find yourself with paper bubble wrap!

We only have one earth and it’s hardly worth bubble wrap going to landfill if we can avoid it!

ORDERS AND SHIPPING

Currently Dark Heartwood is a small operation (run entirely by two people) in order to keep on top of orders, production and sculpting future designs we tend to ship orders as soon as possible, though there might be a delay of a day or two - it helps now that we can have our deliveries picked up from us!

You’ll receive an email with a tracking number when we have shipped your order

To make it easier for you (and for us) we flat rate our shipping - in the UK that means it’s £3.45 for any size order. It varies for the rest of the world but generally we assume the shipping weight will be around 750g in weight (which is the minimum weight an order can be). To put that in context a full pumpkin host (around 1.25kg) costs us £25 to ship to the USA, whereas we charge £17.

Shipping is applied at checkout, I’m using royal mail as a guide, so I have input a lot of countries - the easiest way to find your shipping is to make your basket and head to checkout. Squarespace doesn’t seem to match entirely to Royal mail shipping destinations, so if you find that you can’t make an order because your country isn’t listed - just shoot me an email, it’s easy enough to us to send you a custom shipping invoice.

THE USE OF STL FILES

Any files downloaded from this site are intended for personal use. Personal use means that you are able to print these files yourself for the intended use of miniature painting or tabletop gaming. Unauthorised distribution of these files is forbidden as is using them as assets in any CG animations or similar, the resale of the files is forbidden as is the sale of the prints. Any deviation from the intended use is most likely a violation of copyright - If in doubt, shoot me an email!

If you know of a violation, please do let me know.

I obviously don’t mind if you print out some pumpkins for a friend, but printing out a bunch to sell on etsy? a big no.

Thank you from us at Dark Heartwood!
